HOW DOES SHS TALK TO YOU?

Been a while, what have you been up to?

The past weeks of silence have been a bit rough for me, I wasn’t well, grad school pressure was also suffocating me. However, I thank God we are almost rounding up the semester and the pressure seems to be going down. I thank God for my life and the life of all my cherished readers.

I’m super excited about today’s blog. Do you know why? I have 2 big pieces of news for you. 

First of all, there’s an army the Holy Spirit Himself is raising in this season and I’m thrilled to talk to you about it. If you follow me on my whatsapp status, you might have seen #TeamSHS. What is #TeamSHS? I get that a lot and that’s why we are here. Haha. #TeamSHS consists of a group of ladies who want to develop a relationship with SHS (Sweet Holy Spirit) or already have a relationship with Him and want to spice things up, you know.

How can you become a member of this team? That’s actually an intelligent question. It’s simple, you need to surrender your life to Jesus Christ and become a born again Christian. You know what, Jesus desires a relationship with you more than you do and so your sins do not prevent you from experiencing that relationship. All you need is to surrender, His mercies are forever sure. 

In case you want to take this decision, which I believe everybody must, pray this prayer with me with all your heart. Before the prayer, let’s look at something in Romans 10:9-10, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”  (NIV). 

Now let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, I’m grateful for your love and for allowing your only son to come die for my sins. Thank you that though my life is not in sync with you right now I’m still alive and you love me. I admit that I am a sinner and the reason why Jesus came to die, to wash my sins away. 

Forgive my sins today, and reconcile me to yourself. I’m ready to travel this journey, give me your grace, show me mercy and help me love you as I should. Come stay in my heart and lead me on this journey of becoming like your precious son Jesus. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me another chance.  Amen 🙏🏻

Maybe you have made this decision before but you know you still don’t have a relationship with SHS. I think it’s a good time to be intentional in this area. You need to start praying that SHS should teach you how to relate with Him. Actually, it should be a daily prayer, if you want it so badly. You need to read the Bible on how He operates as well as listen to teachings or messages about Him. Read Christian literature too, I will recommend Good Morning Holy Spirit and Welcome Holy Spirit by Benny Hinn. I’m also available for such conversations.

So here’s the second one. I have been receiving a lot of questions about how one can develop their relationship with SHS amongst others and it has pleased SHS and myself to have one of the blogs dedicated to #SHSConversations. This is where we have questions related to SHS answered. So feel free to send your questions and my guests and I will help out as much as SHS guides us. 

Did I say two? Actually there is a third thing to talk about, that is our topic for today. A friend asked me a question. “Barbs, how do you hear from SHS?” and that is what we are going to address today as the Lord helps us.

To hear someone speak to you, you must first know and believe that the person can speak. The Holy Spirit is a person and He speaks. Let’s read what John said. 

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. John 16:13 (NIV)

You should also remember that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the trinity/the Godhead and the three of them work together. With that established, let’s look at some ways SHS can speak to you. 

• Through the WORD OF GOD: Dear Intentional Lady, SHS will not tell you something which is contrary to the word of God. How will you know that the voice you’re hearing is actually SHS if you don’t know the word of God? This means that we should all endeavor to study the word of God and allow SHS to explain it to us. If you have the word of God in you, it helps SHS to remind you about it in trying times and enables Him to speak to you based on that. Trust me, all the answers to human problems are in the word of God. Be diligent in your personal bible study, it should be a daily practice.

• Another way God can speak to you is through DREAMS and VISIONS. God speaks to us in dreams while we are asleep or while we are awake through visions. Some of them are very clear and self explanatory and with others, you would have to pray over them for clarity. 

• SHS can also speak to you DIRECTLY. Yes! He can speak with you like I am doing right now. This comes in different dimensions and I believe it depends on the level of your relationship with the Holy Spirit. Aspire to go deeper with Him. 

I remember some years back, I heard that it’s not everyday that you can hear from God. Tell you what, that’s a big lie. Every moment you breathe is actually an opportunity for God to communicate with you through His Spirit. There is so much going on in life, we make decisions everyday and we can’t afford to do it all without God. 

We need to come to a place of total dependence on God. The place where we talk to Him about everything, both the big and small decisions. Don’t wait till your plan backfires before you come to Him. SHS is our greatest advantage as Christians and it’s a pity that most Christians relegate Him to the background. 

He is a speaking God and He speaks every day, every moment. You just have to pay attention in order to hear what He is saying and obey it. Though He speaks always, we must make a conscious effort to hear Him. I believe the following tips will help.

• CREATE THE ATMOSPHERE: SHS has an atmosphere in which He operates. He is a holy God and thrives in holiness. Take this seriously and be mindful of your ways because you are the temple of God and SHS lives in you. You can be a Christian but you may not hear Him speak to you if you’re living a double life. What do you listen to? What conversations do you engage in? Because I want to hear SHS all the time and not miss out on any word He has for me, I am always listening to gospel music, gospel messages or uplifting podcasts. I create an enabling atmosphere. You can’t be investing in an atmosphere that doesn’t support godliness and expect to hear from SHS. (I’m listening to Victoria Orenze as I type, I need to tap into heaven’s frequency to be able to share what SHS tells me to).

• EXPECT HIM TO TALK: I know I can be a bit of a drama queen but SHS understands. I have high expectations of Him to talk anytime I pray, read my Bible or engage in any spiritual activity. There are times where I put a chair in front of me and I invite SHS to come and sit down because we need to talk. I go with a pen and notebook and I write as He speaks. I used to be a victim to praying and ending my prayer without allowing Him to speak. I thank God I have been delivered from that. Prayer is supposed to be a two way communication so expect Him to talk, ask questions and expect answers. In the morning, after your quiet time, ask Him what’s up for the day? I do that a lot because I don’t want to miss out on His plan for my life, not even for a second. Sometimes, waiting to hear His take on a particular matter may take a week or even months but it’s worth every minute of  the wait. 

• MAKE TIME FOR HIM: You know that feeling when that special person calls at a certain time, say 3:00pm everyday. You are always eager to receive that call and cannot wait for 3:00pm. SHS feels the same and more when you have a special time for Him. It’s just the two of you and all you do is gist, fellowship and enjoy each other. Call it a date night, it should be regular, set an alarm so you don’t forget because He is always on time. This will help build your relationship with Him and He will definitely speak. Such moments sure leaves deposits on you. 

• DON’T LIMIT HIM: It’s very interesting to hear people make statements such as, “I know prayer can help but is it applicable in this situation”. I see, as for #TeamSHS members, we talk to SHS about everything, I mean everything, without exceptions. Don’t limit the move of God in your life, He can do more than you can ever imagine or think of. (Ephesians 3:20). There is a part of the Christian walk that you can’t explain, you can only experience it. Sis, there are deeper heights in SHS and the goal is to always access higher realms.

Remember, this is where we guide ladies on their journey to intentionality and your spirituality should be the first thing you should develop since the spiritual controls the physical.
