SHS in “my” FINANCE

All too soon, the first half of the year is over.

How did the first half go?

It’s okay if you were not able to achieve all your goals.

However, it will not be okay if you don’t evaluate how you did and strategize for the next half. Because you must do better.

Now, to today’s business. We have learnt about how good money is, how to be intentional about our spending and investment. We’ll be looking at the role of Sweet Holy Spirit (SHS) in “our” finance.

Before we delve into it,  I want you to understand that if you have not submitted to the lordship of Jesus Christ, then you are missing out. It’s only those who have taken this step that can enjoy the leading of the Holy Spirit in their lives. I have a blog on how to do that, find it here.

If you have taken that step already, you’re on the right track; however,  it’s not automatic that SHS will lead you in your finances. Deuteronomy 8:18 reads, “But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.”(NIV)

This is the word of God and it’s the truth, but have you wondered why some, if not most Christians are poor or can hardly make ends meet? 

SUBMISSION! Yhup! The Holy Spirit is a gentle Spirit and till you call Him, He doesn’t respond. If you will be real with yourself and do a self-assessment, you will realise that the aspect of your life that you have surrendered fully to God is flourishing. And the aspects that are not going so well, a deep search will inform you that you never surrendered it to SHS, or you probably partially did. You want to see SHS lead you in all aspects of your life, surrender wholly to Him, and do it daily. 

So what happens when you surrender your finances to SHS? Two things!

First of all, your money is not your money, it is His. Now, read that again. There’s no “my” money, it is HIS MONEY. Pause! And let that sink in.

The silver is mine and the gold is mine, declares the LORD Almighty. Haggai 2:8

You may not understand why I’m telling you to re-read what I just said till you experience it. As a matter of fact, the moment you accepted Jesus Christ as your “Lord”, you literally said, from this day, nothing is mine, my body and everything that will ever come to me including my money is yours, because you are my Lord. After I watched this video by Ps. Mike Todd, I realised that every money that passes through my hand is for God, I’m just the manager. And the boss is the one who calls the shots on how the company should run, and what to do with his money. 

Next thing is, He will guide you into financial prosperity. I like the smile on your face. Oh yeah, note that I said He will guide you, it means you have to follow. There are general principles in the Bible for financial prosperity you need to follow and if you do so, you will get results. If you don’t do it, you won’t get the associated results. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Christian or not, principles are principles.

Aside from these general principles, there may be specific ones tailored for your particular situation and destiny you must adhere to. Tell you what, you can only access these by going to the Sweet Spirit of God because the Spirit searcheth all things, yea the deep things of God. (1 Corinthians 2:10). Mind you, it’s not enough to be praying about your financial circumstances. We pray so that we are empowered to undertake the instructions the Holy Spirit gives us in the place of prayer. 

One such principle is GIVE AND IT SHALL BE GIVEN UNTO YOU(Luke 6:38). And I will add, as directed by SHS. Remember, He’s supposed to be guiding us. 

How or who do we give to?

Tithes: I know this is a very controversial one and people have all sorts of views.  However, if you are led by SHS and you expect to prosper financially, don’t forget to tithe. (Malachi 3:8-12). This video explains it well.

Orphans, widows and the marginalized in society. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. (James 1:27)

Sowing financial seeds into the lives and ministry of men of God. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. 42And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward. (Matthew 10:41-42).

The list is unending and I believe if you ask SHS, He will tell you what to do at any point in your life to unlock financial prosperity. SHS never goes wrong. I can bet on that.

NB: I’m sure most of you have heard people talk about how Christians are “foolish” to follow these principles especially when it comes to giving to men of God. If you are part of this group, please change that mindset. Such people spend their money in ungodly places, supporting all sorts of evil practices and people think it’s normal, it’s their money so they should spend it how they want it. As for us Christians, we are just managers, God owns the money and so whoever He directs us to give to, we will.

SHS’ dealings with me in my finances

Flashback to November 2021…..

…… My mother in the Lord was teaching and she mentioned that sowing a financial seed on your birthday opens greater doors. Suddenly, I heard a voice, “On your birthday next year, sow X amount of money to X man of God.” I looked around in my room to see if someone had entered my room lolx. It is not that I didn’t know it was SHS speaking, but the amount involved was huge. Somebody shout “huge”.Wait, did you just shout? Hahaha. 

“SHS, I don’t know where this voice is coming from but if you are the one, please help me to undertake this assignment”, that was all I could say. He is my Lord.

….. Back to June 2022

Oh! He helped me to fulfil the task. It is His money, I’m just the manager. And this is not the only time He has told me something like that and I’m sure He won’t stop now. So I have gotten to a point in my life where any money I get, I ask Him what we should do with it. There are times that He tells me in advance that I’m going to get some money (whether I “worked” for it or not) and this is how much you are to give to this person or this is the project we are going to do with it. 

What about tithes and offerings? Are you kidding me? Those are constants. 

I have had an experience where SHS restricted me from sowing a seed to a man of God. He’s a genuine man of God, that I know but as to why I received the restriction, I don’t know. SHS didn’t tell me why. My point is, follow His leadings even if it doesn’t make sense. 

You may think all these are boring and all God wants us to do is to give. Not at all, since I started following the lead of SHS concerning my finances, I have never lacked. YES! I have always had enough, more than enough to even spare. 

I have come to a realization that sometimes, it’s not always about giving money out so that you get money in return. Sometimes all that someone has to do in order for a door of glorious marriage to open for her is to pay for the shoes of her friend who is about to get married. Just that, and that door is opened. How will you know this if you don’t talk to SHS? 

In this second half of the year, don’t forget to SUBMIT totally to the lead of SHS in your finances and see this area of your life shoot to the next level. God really desires for His children to prosper and this includes financial prosperity. The next time you get money, don’t forget this, “God, you are the owner of this money, I’m just the manager, how do we go about it?”.
